The conversation went like this . . .
After a time of quiet meditation I began working my way through my people that I pray for. My GA interrupted me.
GA: Why are you doing this? Praying for people?
Me: Because it’s what I want to do, it’s what I’ve done. It’s what I’m supposed to be doing.
GA: But why do you feel that you must do this?
Me: I guess it’s because it’s what I’ve always done, and it’s what people ask me to do. Am I not supposed to be doing this?
GA: No, you’re not. You’re getting in the way.
Me: Of what and who?
GA: Don’t you think that the people that you’re praying for already have angels that are working with them, for them, guiding and protecting them, healing and ministering to their needs? You're praying for something that's already being done. Don't you see this?
Me: (Me struggling to figure this out.) Well . . . I guess I do. Of course . . . but . . .
I was then lifted to a heavenly sphere and shown a vision of a multitude of angels, fields and fields of angels, as far as my eye could see angels ministering to people of the planet. In all of the pain, sorrow, joys and celebration, work, careers, medical crises, life and death, there were angels with people already doing profound and divine work.
GA: Do you now see that the work is already being done? That which you are requesting is already being done. You’re prayers are getting in the way of the work. The angels already know the need, the worries and concerns of their people. The angels are already there. It’s time that you learn this lesson.
Me: But I thought I was supposed to be praying for people in this way, joining with the angels.
GA: No, you're getting in the way. Your prayers are often counter to the direction that the angels are supposed to take these lives.
Me: But all I’m doing is asking that divine light surround these people.
GA: Again, do you think that’s not already done? Each of these divine angels are already there, already surrounding these people, already guiding them, before you’re even aware of the need. You’re request is being done so far in advance of your prayers. It’s as if you think that you can somehow ask that God attend to them when God and the angels have been attending to them from the beginning.
Me: But then what am I supposed to do?
GA: What do you think your supposed to do?
Me: I’m at a loss.
GA: (waiting)
Me: Focus on myself? Pray for myself, awaken to the needs and lessons that I have to learn? Awaken to your visions and teachings for me . . .?
GA: It’s about time that you realize this.
Me: But isn’t this selfish? Focusing on me seems self centered and selfish.
GA: Why do you think this is selfish? The lessons that you’re learning are to awaken you so that you can share these visions with others.
Me: But then what am I supposed to do when people ask me to pray for them? Aren’t I being negligent in my responsibilities as a pastor if I don't pray for them?
GA: Not at all. When people ask you to pray for them it’s to do two things. The first is to awaken you to their needs. It means that you have work to do with these people as a pastor. You need to hear their needs and to be with them. Secondly, part of your work is to point them to their angels already with them. Again, in the same way that you have angels with you, so do they. Your job is to simply point to their angels, so that these people can connect directly with the divine presence that is already with them.
Me: But . . . aren’t I supposed to intercede for them, to do what they can’t do for themselves?
GA: Why is this so hard for you to understand? How many times do I have to go over this with you?
Me: Please be patient, I’m trying to understand.
For some reason, in my minds eye, I pick up my prayer list and start to work my way through it again.
GA: Will you stop with this!
Me: Then what am I supposed to do?
GA: Why are you arguing so hard against this?
Me: Because it seems to contrary to everything I know, believe, and have taught for over thirty-four years of ministry.
GA: Then it’s about time that you learn this lesson. I’ve been trying to teach this to you for years and you haven’t had the ears to hear it. Now you do have the ears, so listen and pay attention.
Me: (Still struggling) But what if people don’t wake up to their divine presence? What if they’re in the midst of their struggles and never awaken to their angels.
GA: Then this is their life lesson for this journey of life. They must learn this lesson at some point. Either now or in the next life time.
Me: So there is a next life time.
GA: Please . . . Of course there is. I thought we had that one cleared up long ago.
Me: I know, I know. It’s just that I’m trying to put this all into a new perspective.
Again, for some reason I start working my way praying for the people on my list for a third time. It’s so ingrained in me. My GA get’s fairly perturbed with me.
GA: You need to learn that you are human. You are a divine human being, but you are human. The angels are fully divine, doing divine work. Get out of the angels way. You need to focus on your own spiritual work and learn your own spiritual lessons.
Me: So this is not selfish? This is not against the great teachings of prayer that I’ve learned, practiced and have taught?
The GA does a face palm and shakes her head.
GA: You really are thick headed.
She then lifts me again and shows me the fields of angels doing their work.
GA: How is this vision counter to the great teachings of the sages from the dawn of the centuries?
Me: What about Jesus teachings to go into you closet to pray in secret, to ask, seek and knock, to pray the Lord’s prayer?
GA: Don’t you see that each one of these teachings are to awaken people to the divine presence that is already with them. It’s one of the great challenges of the human life.
I’m shown again the fields of Angels. Each one with a particular person. It's as if I'm not seeing and understanding. The GA is wanting me to get this vision.
Me: So everyone has an angel? Even Donald Trump? (I jokingly ask.)
GA: (She smiles.) Yes, even Donald Trump. However his lessons are hard and profound. Those who have amassed great financial wealth have the hardest lessons to learn. There are some wealthy people who have awakened to this life challenge. Those that given their wealth away have learned the lesson. Those that amass their wealth and cling to it still have work to do in this life time and the next.
Me: Am I supposed to write about this?
GA: Yes, everything you learn is meant to be shared. It’s why it’s being revealed. It’s why it’s not selfish. It’s why you write.
Me: And put it in the blog?
GA: Yes in the blog and trust that we will put in the hands of those that need to read it.
Me: Am I done?
GA: That’s up to you. Have you learned the lesson?
Me: I . . . think . . . I have. It seems so foreign to everything that I have practiced up until this day.
GA: New lessons are always hard. You are done for today. Now write.
Me: (Bowing) Thank you . . . I think.
So hear I am, writing to you. I’m trusting that as my Angel has taught me, this will land in the right hands. Maybe you've known this lesson for years. For me it's brand new. This might just be the lesson that you need to learn.
The message for me is clear. We all need to awaken to the divine that is already with us. In the midst of our trials and tribulations our divine angels are with us and we need to awaken and turn to them for love, guidance and insight. We need to encourage those that we know and love to do the same.
